Village Historical Shirakawa-go and Gokayama,japan


Historic village of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama is one of the World Heritage Site located in Japan. The site is located in the river valley Shokawa (Shirakawa Village) on the border and Gifu Prefecture Toyama Prefecture in the Tokai-Hokuriku region, Honshu. Shirakawa-go (白川郷, "White River District") is located in the Village of Shirakawa in Gifu Prefecture. Gokayama (五箇山, "Five Mountain") located in the region divided between the Village Kamitaira and Taira Village in Nanto outside the city in Toyama Prefecture.

These villages are the traditional home gasshō-zukuri (合掌造り). Model home Gassho-zukuri, or "the construction of prayer" characterized the form of a sloping roof and the hands of people who are praying. Design house is very strong and has a unique roofing kekokohan who maintain the building because of this village will be covered a very thick snow during the winter. Home village of Shirakawa-go is very large, with 3 to 4 level under the roof which is very low, so the place is enough for one big family.
